Sonney`s Bbq Shack Bar and Grill in Soutd Lake Tahoe

Sonney’s BBQ is a good choice for BBQ in South Lake Tahoe with a variety of different options to choose from. The menu has something for everyone. The brisket and baby back ribs were very good and would recommend people try. Coming from Texas, my standards for BBQ are very high and this place comes relatively close to the quality.

Great patio area. Friendly & knowledgeable staff. Dog friendly. Great selection of beers and wine. Ordered the spare ribs, beef ribs, sweet potato fries, French fries, baked potato, Mac n cheese, and nachos. Great food! Ordered the bread pudding and it was amazing...even my kids enjoyed the bread pudding and they are picky. Sorry no food pics but I kids dig in as soon as it came.

Wonderful patio seating area. The St. Louis ribs were the BEST we have ever had - so juicy, tender, savory, and perfectly seasoned. Their Jalapeño corn bread goes very well with their housemade Honey Butter! The spicy butt kicker sauce is the way to go!

Came here while I was visiting. I had an awesome time here. They have amazing ribs here. All their ribs are smoked in house and worth every penny. If you are in the area and want a nice rustic atmosphere that matches the rest of the town this is the place to go! I'm gonna come back here again next time I visit.

I work here now. These guys and gals really put forth effort and love into the food.

From my experience and what I saw while I was there, I'd say Sonney's is definitely the place to go for ribs. I kept seeing plates of them being served, and they were a very impressive sight. A $35 full rack could be split; 1/2 rack is $25. Again, a very impressive sight those racks of ribs! Impressive burgers, as well! The brisket sandwich was recommended, but highly disappointing: overdone meat - what there was of it - no sauce, cheap roll, no toppings came with it - very blah! Convenient stop pre or post- Tahoe Basin, but be prepared for a wait - which you can do in their rustic bar area. Completely casual, beach attire.

Omg! So good! We got seated right away. Pet friendly. They had a special doggy bowl for our fur baby. Awesome staff who ddnt mind engaging in conversation, even during this pandemic, which made us feel like normal human beings... of course everyone had masks on! Food was great! Yeah the only complaint my daughter had was that the hotdog was too big for a kid! All our orders were big portions so we couldn't finish them but that meant more for later. I'd say it was worth the price and I would definitely come back the next time we drive through.

Stop the car!! Best BBQ I have had!! Big establishment. They have a full bar as well. We ordered everything on the menu AND IT WAS ALL DELICIOUS!!! Don't deny yourself of a local treat.

Amazing barbeque, especially for California. Definitely a hidden gem. The ribs are incredible especially for the price tag. Sides are good, especially coleslaw.

Excellent BBQ joint for enjoyment after beong in the snow. They have excellent platters and great service. One star taken off because the brisket was a tad bit dry, but the project ribs and beef ribs were nicely done with plenty of meat on them. The corn bread was just okay, nothing to rave about. But the BBQ beans and garlic Mashers were really good. I would definitely come back.

Stopped by after long day for dinner, service was great and welcoming, awesome ribs and drinks. Overall had a great time :) it's a little pricey but everything in that area is. Definitely enjoyed this restaurant:)

This restaurant is clearly one of the most attractive place to eat in the neighborhood. Anytime I come there I am extremely satisfied. They manage their very high standard service and the highest level of food they offer. You no doubt will love this place. Very recommended.

Amazing BBQ.. if you're travelling up to Emerald Bay, need to come here. Very Covid safe, outdoor seating.. And, BEST BBQ. And I've tried BBQ all over Texas. Nikki is the greatest server.. seriously. If you're touring Tahoe, she knows exactly what to do / where to go.

Had a great experience here! Food was amazing and what a great variety of menu items! Staff was cool and there's plenty of parking.

Went here based on the great reviews and was extremely disappointed. The service took FOREVER. Which was not good with 2 small children. They only brought out one of the Mac and cheese meals (we ordered two) but it didn’t matter because it was nasty and they kids wouldn’t eat it. After waiting almost an hour to get the food we asked for boxes to take it to go. The world famous pig things weren’t that great either.

Amazing! We got the Sonney burger and the st. Louis ribs. Both were delish. GET THE FRIES! The best fries. Got the garlic mash and greens. Both yummy. Ribs were meaty and fell off the bone. Burger was flavorful and cooked perfect. Also, came during COVID ... outside seating was perfect and dog friendly. Also the service was great. The lady who helped us was patient as I got the dog settled and comfy. Gave great suggestions (ribs), checked on us a good amount. Will definitely be back.

We ate from the appetizer menu it was great. Pull port sliders potato skins and brisket. The four choices of bbq sauce. Service was great.Worth going back 2

Saw this place advertised before Avengers Endgame on our honeymoon and couldn’t wait to go. Food was out of this world: we had brisket and baby back ribs (recommended)..... the best BBQ we’ve had!! Also had a local beer that was awesome. See pictures of our meals. You will not go home hungry... so we took desert with us (Key Lime Pie).... that was soooooo good.

Food was so delicious!! All of the waitresses were SO friendly and accommodating! Highly recommend any fans of quality barbecue try this place!!

It was delicious. We ordered the BBQ nachos and 2 combo plates to split between the 3 of us and it was more than enough food and plenty of left overs. The meat was wonderfully seasoned and smoked to perfection. The Nachos were by far my favorite. The flavor of the meat blended perfectly with the cheese and beans. Definitely going back again!

Pet friendly place!! Wow, Sonnys is the BBQ place you have always wished to open. The layout is common to an indoor restaurant/bar, until you reach the doors that lead outside. They are garage doors that just roll up, exposing one of the rooms to the outdoors. Outside, there are sturdy picnic style benches, a fire out, and a gazebo! It was nice to sit down with the adults while the kids ran around in an fenced off area. We brought 2 dogs with us, and the staff brought out a small bowl of water for them. The food was delicious! I had the baby back ribs, baked beans and collard greens. All delish to the parties at the table. The staff was amazing, and they made me feel welcome, and like I was just hanging out at a friends amazing house.Also, probably the cherry on top, but they bring out hot, wet, wash clothes to yourself up with. It felt heavenly after those ribs were annihilated.

Great BBQ is a safe if calorie intensive alternative to bad drugs. Sonny's has you covered if you are looking for that good good. Solid sides. Outdoor dining and indoor dining with large doors for ventilation.

Can't believe this place only got two $$, $70 for two entres and one appetizer?!? When a place charges for $3.25 for refills, they should be upfront about this (and bring you a separate FULL glass, instead of refilling your half-empty one).The food was maybe, MAYBE two out of five stars.Just head on down the street another block to The Burger Lounge and get yourself some five star burger goodness.

Really good. Great service. Food was really good. Big portions. Kind of pricey but worth it. Next time in south Lake Tahoe you have to check it out.

We loved it. Matt, our waiter, was incredible. He was funny, attentive and the food was top notch! We highly recommend your restaurant and will spread the good word.

Sonney’s was delicious! With a ton of outdoor seating - it’s very Covid friendly and serves some of the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! The ribs, smoked chicken and Mac and cheese were all delicious along with the key lime pie. The outdoor seating is also dog friendly which is super helpful if you’re traveling w pets. Tasty, high quality and with a friendly staff - you cant go wrong .

On my way back from Emerald Lake, I Googled best BBQ in Tahoe. I found Sonney's to have great ambiance/ interior design as a BBQ joint. The food is pretty good, pig wings were succulent/ tasty as advertised. Corn bread and butter was delicious.The beef ribs, I wasn't terribly impressed by. They look large, but more bone than meat. Desserts a bit overly sweet.With COVID going on or even generally, would be better if they had plastic gloves instead of just napkins.Service was nice, especially hostess and busboy.Overall, I'd recommend and be back with a large group.

Absolutely amazing... the food was spot on and the service was incredible. I am a general manager so I tend to be a little harder on servers and establishments... but I was impressed with my experience here.

Sonny's is real good BBQ. My wife and I both had the beef brisket. I had a baked potato and collard greens and she had coleslaw and BBQ beans. Everything was delicious! The brisket was tender and moist. The "Original" sauce has nice, but no heat. The "Burn Yer Butt" had a moderate heat and excellent flavor. I would not have minded a bit more heat, but I do like it hot! I suspect the heat was fine for most.Service was outstanding! Gregory was attentive and friendly. COVID setup was excellent with plenty of space between tables.

The food was overall really good, but avoid the mac and cheese. The jalapeno peppers were amazing, along with the pulled pork sandwich, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. It was a little on the pricier side, but it's a restaurant in Tahoe so that is to be expected. We had a big party and they accommodated us nicely. Good service.

We saw this place driving by, so glad we stopped. The food was great. Service was awesome and the portions were huge.

Drive through at least a 30 minute wait. Out of forks and bread. Asked for “special” received different price. Their menu prices are not the same as Fernandina Beach FL just FYI if anyone else is traveling from there.

Good place , can’t say it’s great , but overall good experience, try the combo . St Louis style is good . The cocktails are not recommended.

Chill little spot. Not cheap but excellent quality food. Smoked ribs, chicken,& meats. Salads & burgers. Great variety of appetizers, draft beers and drinks. I'm looking forward to going back. Traveling here from the East coast & I want to stay!!! I'd work here the spot is so dope ;) dog friendly & children friendly..... Kids here are so happy!!! Not one on their phones. Playing in the grass with big smiles. Excellent experience

Wow, what a meal! Came up to SLT to briefly visit my family that lives here and they recommended we eat at Sonney's, after eating here myself I can see why it was recommended! Tri-tip was tender and flavorful, mixed drinks were outstanding, and the Brisket was the best I've ever had. Wonderful staff and environment. If you're in the area, don't miss out!

The food is always great when we come. But our waiter, Greg Milligan, was by far the best! Amazing attitude personality attentiveness remembering our drinks on top of him serving other tables getting our food out quick with great attitude and his laugh is killer!!!! Tip your waiters!!!

Place was inviting. Server was polite and patient, came by several times because we couldn't make up our minds. Ribs, natchos, mash, mac, and the sweet potato fries were very good. The corn bread was a bit dry and crumbly but so are Sonny's (not related franchise in the South East).

Love the ribs and chiken bbq. The steak French fries are also my favorite.

Very long wait for takeout. I showed up on a Wed night and was told it would be an hour and half. Food must be good. I'm just sorry I won't get to enjoy it.

The bbq sandwiches were pretty good besides forgetting the bbq sauce on one of them. The fries were a little overdone but still good. Will return soon

This is such a great place. Awesome at doing their part in social distancing! The staff were awesome! Still can't get over how incredible the food is!

This was a magical day with the man who could take my stress and heartache away with an afternoon drive from Sacramento to lake Tahoe and even though i forgot to pick up my only child this day it was still the most romantic, tranquil, and relaxing experiences of my life the snow was glossing from the Windows where icicles dripped from the gutters and the hill actors the street looked like a path waiting for you to explore. Sonny has the most amazing barbeque pulled pork i have ever had the pleasure of having melt in my mouth the meat is slow cooked with the perfect blend of spices then a sauce like bothering i have ever had before. Even the food was a special enchanting experience. If you are ever in this neighbourhood. This is a one of a kind adventure. I would strongly recommend it to anyone along this trail. 👣
